Zwift vs real streets: when Street View beats video
Zwift is a game world. Rouvy and FulGaz are filmed real-world routes. As of April 2026,
Rouvy and FulGaz sit inside the Zwift family.
VirtualRide is neither. It is indoor cycling on Google Street View. Type two places, or tap
A to B on the map. Pedal, the actual road moves. $9/month. Chrome + any Bluetooth trainer.
A real mountain pass. Not Watopia. Not a helmet-cam catalog.
When Street View is the better job
You want YOUR road: commute, childhood street, next month’s sportive.
You do not want a catalog. Filmed apps only have what someone recorded. Street View
has whatever Google has driven.
You want a scenery day, not a race. No avatars, no events, no Watopia.
You want it in the browser. No install, no Apple TV app, no companion.
Any A → B Google has driven. Not limited to a filmed library.
When it is not
You race, draft, or live for Zwift events. We are not that product.
You want 4K helmet-cam video. Street View can jump, especially in cities. Mountain
passes and quiet streets look better.
You ride on iPhone Safari or Apple TV. Trainer connect needs Chrome (Mac, Windows,
or Android). Apple does not allow Web Bluetooth in Safari.
You want free. MyWhoosh owns “free Zwift alternative.” We are $9.
Honest comparison
Zwift: game world, racing, community. ~$20/mo. Apple TV and phones.
MyWhoosh: free virtual world. Racing. Not real streets.
Rouvy (Zwift family): filmed real roads. Limited to the library.
Kinomap: rider-shot video. UGC catalog.
Kadnce, GPedal, Incyclist: also Street View on a trainer. We are the simple Chrome
one: any road, $9, no GPX required.
VirtualRide: any Street View road, browser, $9. Chrome only. No free ride pool
(demo without trainer exists).
